Dahanu

Dahanu has a long coastline with beaches extending up to the UT of Daman in the north with few interruptions! Dahanu has a few beaches, which have been developed as tourist destinations. Dahanu, Bordi and the Narpad beaches are just a few kilometers from each other and offers very secluded weekend destinations. Dahanu beaches mostly are black sandy beaches safe for a dip in the sea as undercurrents here is minimal .

Dahanu is one of the few beaches in Maharashtra that can be reached by train from almost all the major cities. There are many trains from Mumbai which has a stop at Dahanu road and less than half an hour ride in a taxi will take you to the the beaches like Dahanu, Bordi or Narpad. 20 kilometers from Dahanu and a two hour trek from the Aswali village is the historic Bahrot caves. Primarily a pilgrim centre of the zoroastrians this cave was the place were the the zoroastrians hid themselves and the 'Atash Behram' from the Muslim invaders for thirteen long years before moving 'Atash Behram' to Bansdah. Even now zoroastrians visit the caves regularly and prform 'jashan' - prayers.
